Microsoft has finally released a spell check and autocorrect feature in Notepad for all Windows 11 users, forty-one years after the program was introduced in 1983.

Notepad has recently gotten a dark mode, actual tabs, a character count and, well, a virtual fidget spinner. It’s also been stuffed to the gills with AI, in the form of Copilot integration.

In 3.5 years, Notepad.exe has gone from “barely maintained” to “it writes for you” AI features in Windows are gradually becoming more widespread and inescapable.
