Three people have been rescued from the Atlantic Ocean in the dark after their plane went down several miles offshore off the coast of Florida, officials said.

The Coast Guard pulled two people wearing lifejackets from the water shortly before 11 a.m. on Sunday, about a half hour after the plane went down a few miles off the coast of Branford, Connecticut.

A single-engine plane crashed into the ocean June 1 off Vero Beach. This year, the United States has seen 418 plane crashes, with 34 in Florida.
