New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani defended his democratic socialism on Sunday and argued that his focus on economic issues should serve as a model for the party, even though some top Democrats have been reluctant to embrace him.

House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries hesitated to endorse Democratic New York City mayor contender Zohran Mamdani but praised his “successful” campaign and messaging.

"I don't think that we should have billionaires, because, frankly, it is so much money in a moment of such inequality," Mamdani said.
