Impossible – The Final Reckoning posted the biggest opening for a US film in the country this year, defying trade and geopolitical tensions between Washington and Beijing.

Tom Cruise and Jason Statham, whose movies have grossed multiple billions of dollars worldwide, have been locked in a box office battle for a decade.

Ethan Hunt can't compete with "Lilo & Stitch" in the second week either. At least Tom Cruise remains the box office crown prince.
